Our steel garage doors offer the best in safety combined with beauty. They are sure to increase the value of your home.

Thermowyane II Insulated Garage Door

A Thermowayne II™ door incorporates exclusive patented features, quality construction and materials that make it the best garage door for your home.

The WayneGard™ pinch-resistant garage door design is engineered to help eliminate injuries caused when fingers are caught in door panel joints during downward operation. This is an important feature to Wayne-Dalton doors, as there are significant injuries associated with standard garage door operation.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), reports that an estimated 8,780 finger injuries are associated with garage door accidents each year. In 1996, 8,530 injuries were reported, including 190 amputations, 1,000 crushing injuries, and 1,400 fractures.

WayneGard™ doors are designed to eliminate this problem. The shape of the contact point between two door panel sections is designed to push fingers away as the door closes, preventing any opportunity for fingers to get caught in the door joint.

The WayneGard™ design is the first integrated pinch resistant design in the industry.

WayneGard™ pinch-resistant design pushes fingers out of harms way.

An industry first, the TorqueMaster™ counterbalance system helps prevent injuries that can be caused by the exposed springs generally used on garage doors. These springs contain a significant amount of force - approximately 44 inch-pounds per turn. The torsion spring on a 7-foot-high garage door typically has 16 turns, translating to 704 inch-pounds of force contained in the spring. The TorqueMaster™ system shields springs - and their dangerous force - safely inside a steel tube.

Because the springs are enclosed in galvanized steel, the TorqueMaster™ is not only safer, it looks better, too. Another safety feature of the TorqueMaster™ is that the springs cannot be accessed by anyone unless all the tension is relieved.

Even installation is safer. Once the door is set, the installer simply winds the springs by using a variable speed screw gun or electric drill. This is radically different from other counterbalance systems. Torsion springs have to be dangerously wound with a steel rod -- and with extension springs, the door has to be manually lifted into the horizontal track before assembly can begin.

Another feature of the TorqueMaster™ system is that the enclosed springs are pre-lubricated, which eliminates some maintenance requirements and helps protect the system from corrosion.

 Safety Bottom Brackets

help avoid possible injury by preventing inadvertent loosening when the counterbalance cables are still under tension.

Wayne-Dalton's Tamper-Proof Bottom Bracket reduces the risk of injury to a homeowner who might attempt to adjust or repair the door and accidentally release door components under tension. To loosen the screws on the bottom bracket, a special tool is required that would not ordinarily be found in common household toolboxes.

Wayne-Dalton's Fire Safety Standards

The most common insulation used in garage doors today is a thermoplastic resin called "expandable polystyrene (EPS)". EPS, however, tends to melt when exposed to heat, causing material to drip in molten fragments when on fire.

Wayne-Dalton garage door systems are manufactured from thermoset resins, which will not drip or melt. Rather, the thermoset foamed plastic will cauterize during flame erosion, leaving a protective barrier that resists the spread of flames.

Thermoset resin materials also will reduce the amount of smoke generated in a fire. Considering most homes now come with attached garages, these features are important since they can help reduce dangerous smoke and slow a fire before it reaches the house.

 Attractive,
low-profile hinges

provide maximum strength between sections, adding stability compared with ordinary vertical hinges. These hinges are painted to match the door color, then factory installed for proper alignment and smoother door operation.

 Bulb-shaped bottom seal

remains flexible even in extreme cold to keep the bad weather outside.

 SilentGlide™ rollers with nylon tires

and solid steel shafts provide years of smooth, quiet, dependable service - guaranteed for life in our warranty!

Patented Twist-Lock/Slide-Lock

is quicker and easier to use!

1.

Patented, foamed-in-place polyurethane core. The core provides an insulation "R"-value of 12, more than twice as much as common polystyrene insulation board the same thickness. It's chemically bonded to each steel section, creating a composite structure with higher strength, greater rigidity, improved dent-resistance and better thermal protection.

2.

Sound-absorbing insulation makes a Thermowayne II™ door quieter in operation, and eliminates wind-rattling. The polyurethane foam is CFC-11-free, so it's environmentally friendly.

3.

Integral foam-filled horizontal struts at top and bottom of door sections add rigidity for long life and smooth operation - extra strength without extra weight.

4.

Embossed steel front panels give Thermowayne II™ doors the look of genuine wood, and the strength of steel. Choose from colonial raised panel (shown) or flush design.

5.

Inside or outside, corrosion protection comes from layering. The layering includes zinc/steel plating, hot-dipped galvanizing, primer coatings, exterior/interior finish coatings, and more. Layering gives Thermowayne II™ doors their lasting good looks while minimizing maintenance.

6.

Textured steel back keeps Thermowayne II™ doors looking good from the inside, too. Inner surface simply wipes clean, just like a range or refrigerator. It's finish-painted the same color as the front of the door.

7.

Hot-dipped galvanized vertical supports add strength and durability. They're painted to match the door color.

8.

Heavy-gauge steel wraparound end caps finish door edges for better appearance, and protect the foamed-in-place polyurethane insulation from damage. End caps are painted the same color as the door.

9.

Protective polymer caps add a finishing touch to the reinforcing struts.

10.

Two-coat, baked-on polyester finish makes these doors virtually maintenance-free. This finish also makes an excellent base if you repaint to match the exterior colors already beautifying your home.

11.

High-tensile steel, extra-deep embossing and rigid polyurethane foam provide amazing dent-resistance.

Patented, foamed-in-place polyurethane core.

The core provides insulation "R"-value of 12, more than twice as much as common polystyrene insulation board the same thickness. It's chemically bonded to each steel section, creating a composite structure with higher strength, greater rigidity, improved dent-resistance and better thermal protection.

To understand how R-value and heat flow are related, it is easier to think of your garage not as a single entity, but as a part of a system with the external environment. As with most everything in nature, heat will want to redistribute itself in an effort to reach a state of equilibrium, or equal temperatures on both the inside and the outside of your garage. To do this, heat must pass through the garage door to reach the other part of the system.

  • In the summer, heat is produced outside of your garage. Thus, it is naturally hotter outside of your garage than inside and heat will try to "get in" to even out the system. If a garage door has an R-value of 3, 1/3 of the heat will get through the door and into your garage. This does not mean that the internal temperature will be 1/3 of the external temperature, though. It just means that as more heat is produced externally, 1/3 of it will enter your garage. Insulating your garage door can help keep the heat out.
  • The opposite is true in the winter. Heat is produced inside your garage in the winter, either by heating or by the effects of the sun. As it is cooler on the outside of the door, heat will try to escape to the outside through the door and other parts of your garage to even out the system. If keeping your garage warm in the winter is a priority, then choose a door with a higher R-value.
